INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - DAY

Jeff, a kid in his mid twenties whose voice and appearanceepitomizes the world of online gaming, stands to the right ofhis TV gloating at his heavily decorated trophy shelf.

His golden reflection stares back at him in the polishedsurface of a large trophy. Engraved are the words “WORLD * CHAMPION.”

At the end of the line of trophies is a family photo of Jeff, * his two siblings, and his parents GERTIE(47) and GARY(50). *

Jeff wedges the trophy into the space occupied by the photo, * his eyes locked on it. The picture, forced to the edge of the * shelf, teeters a long moment before it falls to the ground * with a GLASS SHATTERING CRUNCH. Jeff doesn’t notice. *

Jeff’s phone sits on the coffee table behind him. After * several VIBRATIONS Jeff finally notices and waddles over to * the table. The caller ID reads “PARENTAL UNIT 1.” *

JEFF Speak.

GARY Hello Jeff, it’s your father calling. I wanted to check up and

see how you have been?

Jeff wedges the phone into his double chin.

JEFF Eh.

GARY Well we haven’t seen you for quite some time, and we never heard back from you about the family gettogether today.

Jeff leans down laboring to pick up his control. *

JEFF Yeah? *

GARY Anyway, we were hoping to see youthere. But if you’re busy...

Jeff chooses his favorite fighter CALIBER who is riddled with * heavy artillery.

JEFF Sorry Dad, I gotta go.

Jeff tosses the phone to the side. On the screen pops up * “SEARCHING FOR OPPONENT.”

JEFF (CONT’D)Who’s ready to get owned.

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS * The TV reads “OPPONENT FOUND.” *

Tommy(6), a young boy with an innocent face, stares wide-eyedat the TV screen choosing his character, GARJIN. *

MOM (O.S.) * Tommy! Are you watching yoursister?

TOMMY YEEEEEESSSSSSSS MOM!

Tommy reaches off screen and pulls ABBY(baby) into frame by * her butt. She sits up holding her cyclops stuffed creature. *

It’s as if nothing else in the room exists besides the TV.

The two fighters face each other as the game announces * “FIGHTERS GET READY!” The countdown begins. BEGIN MONTAGE * “3” Jeff cracks his fingers. “2” Abby rasberrys at the screen. Tommy’s annoyed. “1” Jeff squints intimidatingly at the screen. *

INT. GAME WORLD - CONTINUOUS

The words “FIGHT” fill the screen. Tommy’s character Garjin jumps up and down punching at the air while Jeff’s characterCaliber stands idly by. Garjin looks quite pathetic.

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Tommy mashes buttons with tongue out in Michael Jordan * fashion, bouncing Garjin getting closer on every jump. *

INT. GAME WORLD - CONTINUOUS

Garjin is finally within hitting range but Caliber remains indefault block mode.

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jeff stares at the screen with a face that shows his destain.

JEFF What a nube.

Jeff’s hands jump into crazy action as he whips his joy stickaround and coordinately dances his fingers across the buttonsin perfectly timed and perfectly executed moves.

INT. GAME WORLD - CONTINUOUS

Caliber does some crazy awesome 50 hit quadruple combinationthat leaves Garjin within an inch of his life.

Garjin stands dazed as the game announces “FINISH HIM!”

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jeff stands dramatically above his controller, and while onehand looms ready to slam, the other swirls the joy stick.

JEFF (timed to his joystickmovements)You - just - got...

He slams his hands down onto the controller and Caliber obliterates Garjin with the blinding heat of a “Samus-like”laser.

Jeff, raises his hands high above his head, reveals hisjiggling underbelly, and declares.

JEFF (CONT’D) OWNED!

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Tommy stares at the screen as tears well up in his eyes. BabyAbby giggles. Tommy begins to bawl. He darts out of the room.

Abby stares in the direction of her brother until the gameasks, “PLAY AGAIN?”

Abby looks at the paddle and hits it with her chubby little * hand accepting yes to the fight. *

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jeff, gulping down an energy drink, notices the rematchrequest. The game counts down from “3, 2, 1.”

JEFF Ah! Up for more punishment are we?

“FIGHT!”

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Baby Abby hits the paddle as if it were a bongo drumlaughing, smiling, and cooing.

INT. GAME WORLD - CONTINUOUS

Garjin springs into action sending a flurry of craziness inCaliber’s direction. It’s more than he can handle.

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jeff spits up his drink shocked at the dramatic change inevents (if effects can handle it). With that perfectprecision we saw earlier, Jeff sends a mass of counterattacks in Garjin’s direction. *

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Baby Abby is gnawing on the paddle as Garjin deflects it all. *

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jeff sweats bullets in panicked disbelif face against the TV. *

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Abby is slapping the paddle with her feet now. *

INT. GAME WORLD - CONTINUOUS

Garjin does a massive 50 hit combo on Caliber putting himinto the death daze. The game shouts “FINISH HIM.”

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - DAY

Jeff, cowers in the fetal position awaiting his “death,” but * Garjin simply holds the fight stance. Jeff’s confused. *

INT. TOMMY’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Abby drools on the control tired from the game’s excitement. * Mom enters, picks Abby up, and turns off the game. *

INT. JEFF’S HOUSE - CONTINUOUS

Jeff, still in the fetal position, looks up when the screenannounces “PLAYER 2 FORFEITS, PLAYER 1 WINS!” Perplexed, and with great effort, Jeff hoists himself onto the table. Jeff * tries to make sense of it all as something catches his eye. *

He looks down to find the broken picture frame. Shards of * glass fall to the ground as he retrieves it. He examines itclosely with a face of concerned remorse.

Finally, as he looks up to face the taunting game console,his expression is replaced by heroic determination. He ishaving his Alma the Younger moment.

He stretches forth his finger pointed directly at the console’s on/off button. It looks as awkward and long as E.T.’s finger as he advances toward the TV. Jeff clutches thebroken frame in his open hand as his source of motivation.The console seems to be a mile away but Jeff will not bestopped. Every step is a milestone. *

After an eternity he is finally there. He stares down the * green button one last time, grits his teeth, and presses itdown. He holds it a moment, releases, and exhales. *

The game shuts down and Jeff places the broken frame on topof the console. He takes a small step back and smiles. *

 Without a second thought Jeff turns, grabs his keys off theend table, and rushes through frame. We end with the sunlightglowing warmly on his family photo.
