Just get things moving...

...these were designs submitted to me by Kiersten, Aaron, and Josh.  Hopefully they won't stab me for posting them...

  1. I really like all of these. I love how rough and loose Josh's drawings are, and I love the polish of Kiersten's designs.

This is just me, but I think the trick here in terms of the design is going to be balancing Jeff as both an antagonist and a protagonist. At the beginning, he's a jerk but by the end he's somewhat redeemed and gets his life back. The design almost has to go both ways; he can't be so hideous that after he's redeemed we don't like him, but he can't look like too much of a pushover.

In a lot of these designs, it's pretty clear that he's the antagonist but there isn't much in the way of appeal so that we like him at the end of the film when he's more of a protagonist -- although a lot of Aaron's drawings do a good job of balancing the two.

Just my two cents. Maybe I'm way off here. Wes, your thoughts?

  2. I agree with John. It's important to balance both sides of Jeff, and I feel like Aaron's are probably strongest at achieving that. I think it can be easy with Jeff to try to up the "gross" factor, and it's the drawings that are more gross (not pointing to anybody's in particular... this is just a general observation) that keep me from liking the character. That's just my opinion though.

    1. You guys have got it exactly. He's unlikable, but at the end we connect with him. Glad you guys are getting it!
